Today of all days his coffee maker had to break. What happened to loyalty? Hell, what happened to that damn guarantee?! It was supposed to never break! In it's defense, however, it had been acting up long before it's final grind and Rylan always told himself he'd buy himself a replacement when he had the chance. Obviously, he never got around to it and was already beginning to regret his procrastination. In need of a good pick-me-up, the shut-in was forced to go out to get some coffee and buy a new machine while he was out to avoid ever doing this again. The local coffee shop would have to do and to further add insult to injury, it was rather packed with a line already waiting at the counter, meaning this wouldn't be a quick and painless process. The man sighed but managed to suck it up as he entered the establishment, settling in the back of the line. Who drank coffee in the afternoon anyway? Plenty, apparently, him being one of them. But he had an excuse, having woken up at 2 and his excuse simply was that he'd fucked up his sleeping schedule and somehow ended up recording way too late at night. Just more mistakes on his part he'd have to work on once he could finally join the living. As of right now, he was determined enough to stick through with the uncomfortable situation, the need for caffeine giving him reason. And a little music always helped as well, Ry thankful he'd left his earbuds in his jacket's pocket. With music in one ear and the sounds of the coffeshop surrounding him picked up by the other, the shy Rylan found the situation a little less stressful and the smell of coffee was enough to awaken his senses enough to the point he wasn't totally helpless. However, that didn't make him want to stick around any longer than he had to and he was patiently (or as patiently as he was capable of) waiting for the line to decrease, eager to get his coffee and go. 351 OPEN NOT MY BEST OPENING BUT FEEL FREE TO JOIN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED ♥ LAIKA OF GS!

❀ | Rory had the very great, very fantastic pleasure of leaving work early today. Mostly because the power had shut off and there wasn't a lot of work to get done without computers. She was ecstatic. She'd sat in her car for nearly thirty minutes, trying to figure out what exactly she'd do with her now free day. She could go to the movies. She could go buy a dog. She could go clothes shopping. She could go to the park. She could try skydiving.
Or, she could get a thing of iced coffee, maybe some ice cream, go home, sit in her underwear, and watch reruns of Scandal. Yeah, that sounded good. Her roommate would be away and that meant the day was hers. At least until five PM. Awesome.
She did not, however, expect to walk into the coffee shop, wait in a horrendously long line (who even bought coffee at noon?) and then see someone that was rather familiar. Rory leaned out of line. She squinted. Then, because she was Rory and people did not in the least intimidate her, she got out of line and grabbed the man by the arm.
"You live in my apartment right?!" she exclaimed. "You're uh- you know. Dylan? Ryan? Like, we haven't really met except. That one time. Remember that time? I gave you a cupcake. You're kind of a shut in, actually." |

He was almost getting lost in the music as those music junkies would say, managing to block out the rest of the world for the most part. Sure, he could still feel them, could have sworn people were watching, but he focused on the rhythm, practically playing along with the sound in his head, and for a second he felt like he could actually do this. Maybe he didn't have to hide away all the time. For once, he could be a little normal. Of course any sort of crazy thoughts was immediately abandoned when he felt something grab his arm. Rylan's eyes widened, frozen in shock as eyes would rest on the blonde who currently had him in her grip. If being grabbed by a stranger out in public wasn't scary enough, having them practically yell made matters worse. Except, this was no stranger and she wasn't actually being aggressive, just loud. No, though they never talked, save for that one time she gave him that aforementioned cupcake (which, admittedly, tasted quite good if he remembered correctly), he knew she lived at the apartments and she was quite popular there if only for the fact what she was doing now was completely normal. Where he was totally shy, she was practically his opposite, perhaps too social for her own good. And brutally honest for that matter. A very faint red crossed his cheeks at the term she used. She wasn't far off the mark, as he was quite the shut in, but did she really have to say it like that? Ah, who was he kidding? It was quite obvious already if it weren't for his own behavior. Regardless, rather than make himself look even more like an idiot, he managed to pull himself out of his frozen state, scratching the back of his head in a nervous manner as he dipped into his internet charm and tried to socialize. "Heh... Y-yeah..." Smoooth, Ry. He didn't even give any indication as to what he was exactly agreeing to either. But you had to cut him a break, he wasn't exactly skilled in this department. "Thanks for the cupcake, by the way." he managed out after a moment or so, reminded he never had actually gotten the proper chance to show his gratitude. Then again, at the time, he wasn't entirely sure how to feel about the offer at first. Call him rude all you wanted, but he could have sworn this was the same girl who'd come home drunk, manage to lock herself out almost every time, and wail at ungodly hours. You could never be too sure. Of course, he did regret thinking that way. She didn't seem all that bad. Just a bit loud and more open than he could ever be. LAIKA OF GS!

❀ | Rory ignored the scowls of the people she had cut in front of. She kept her hand on Rylan's arm for a moment longer and then finally let go. She smiled at him, ignoring (or just not noticing) his discomfort. Rory had the decency to pull back a little, clasping her hands together in front of herself. Her body twisted side to side. She seemed rather pleased with everything going on right now, including the spreading blush on his face.
Well, she was pretty cute, wasn't she?
"I'm Rory. I live in apartment twenty-four," she stated, "And sure. No problem!"
Rory kept her eyes focused on him, but when the person at the head of the line finally moved, she sidestepped upwards. "Do you want more cupcakes? Like, I can make you so many, okay. Any kind. All the kinds," she stated, hands unclasping so she could wave them frantically in front of her. She was very much so serious about this and, more than that, rather hopeful because this guy (Wayland? Leighton?) seemed perfectly great and cupcakes were the best way to get to know someone.

When she finally released him, Rylan felt slightly more relieved. Slightly. She was still there. He felt awful for thinking that way, but he honestly just couldn't help it. Lame as an excuse as it was; It wasn't her, it was him. He just didn't do good with the socializing thing to start with and she practically (literally) made them the center of attention with how loud and boisterous she was. So he was just mildly uncomfortable and found himself focusing more on her in an attempt to block out the people angrily looking her way. He really regretted not fixing his coffee maker sooner now. Rory. Apartment twenty-four. He found himself memorizing that in case it became useful later on. After that though, he expected her to be content and get back to focusing on getting her fix. Of course it couldn't be that easy and she moved along with him. He... supposed that was okay? Despite the death glares of course but, honestly, he'd rather avoid a confrontation if there was any. So he decided not to question her actions and try and go along with it, hopeful no one was crabby enough to complain. He'd start praying to gods even if they actually existed. He shoved that thought aside as Rory continued on the conversation in an almost scarily casual manner. She was practically the complete opposite of him. He supposed it was safe to assume she liked baking if, you know, 'all the kinds' wasn't enough to prove that. He might have found it amusing had he not been so embarrassed. "Er... Well. I wouldn't want to trouble you." he tried to politely decline. It was grandma nightmare all over again. He could already imagine a mountain of cupcakes at his door and as good as they were, he wouldn't think he'd be able to handle that much sugar. Besides, that was just asking for trouble. Like feeding a stray, likely she'd only keep coming around. He mentally kicked himself again, feeling awful for comparing her as such. But he wasn't completely wrong, right? Perhaps he should stop assuming. LAIKA OF GS!

❀ | Rory had the spectacular ability to block out anything and everything, whether it be the death glares from angry patrons to her parent's deep set disapproval of her. She could - and would - ignore anything that did not leave her happy. It was a valuable asset and a terrible burden for everyone else. As Rylan was bearing witness to. While he felt the brunt of everyone's irritation, Rory existed in a state of I-don't-even-know.
"Oh, no!" she exclaimed. Rory looked at him, wide eyed and practically horrified he had even said such a thing. She grabbed his arm again and stared intensely at Rylan. "I'd be delighted, okay? Like, it'd be the complete opposite of troubling. I'd be so happy!"
Making cupcakes for a boy? Or even with a boy? What else was there to life? Nothing, Rory was convinced, absolutely nothing. Except maybe boys with fuzzy kittens and no college debt, but that was something else entirely. She did not have the money for those things, but she did have the money to make far too many cupcakes for one person to consume.
She gripped his arm a little tighter and smiled, bright and cheery, as if the sun might very well explode outwards from her. "So, you come over, and we'll make cupcakes, mmkay? Oooo, are you busy, actually? We could do that right now. I'm totally free."
