Coming from a family built on hard work and discipline, Ray learned responsibility at an early age. He's also very critical of himself and others. Some call him a perfectionist. Others call him blunt and inconsiderate. At first glance, Ray appears to have a serious, introvert demeanor. Growing up, Ray had never been particularly popular though out of his own choice. He isn't interested in big social events or hoarding attention. He doesn't usually go out of his way to start a conversation with strangers and small talk doesn't appeal to him. But if a person can pique his interest, he's more incline to make conversation, and perhaps he'll even go out of his way to make contact. The key to becoming friends with Ray is enticing him with something unique about yourself. After that, he's much more open to socializing. However, it is hard to impress Ray.
Ray admires persistence and passion. He has a high amount of respect for people that follow their dreams and stick up for themselves. Although he seems distant and cold, this is only true to people he doesn't know. If he's not comfortable with you, he sees no need to fake a smile or treat you nicely. To his friends, Ray can be very talkative and teasing while still retaining a mature composure. He's no gentleman, but he is tasteful and doesn't go out of his way to start a fight or get in trouble.
As a sportsman, he respects the code of honor but he's also quite competitive both on and off the field. Ray is able to cool head in most situations, but with enough provoking, even he'll get heated enough to want to prove his superiority. This works as his advantage and disadvantage since it inspires him to work harder but also makes him conceited.

Ray is the eldest son of the Shen family. Both his parents were ambitious and successful in their dreams. His father, a native Californian, pursued basketball and his English mother was a well-known pianist within Europe. The two met in China during their travels and fell in love like a storybook. After two years of a long distance relationship, they had finally settled in the hometown of Ray's father. Ray entered their lives early on and would live the best of both worlds. His parents offered them their passions and he soon claimed them as his own. When Ray wasn't playing basketball, he sat before the piano with his private tutor; although his parents had high expectations of him, he never felt pressured since he enjoyed basketball and the piano so much.
It became apparent to Ray near the end of his high school days that he wouldn't be able to give both his parents what they wanted. He had to choose one path - basketball or piano. It was the first time in his life he felt lost and it wasn't until after a year and a half in college did he finally decide on continuing his career in music.
Down the road, Ray befriended two fellow musicians and the trio formed a band. He currently lives with said band mates and although they're not exactly living the high life, he's (more or less) happy to be following out his passion, and when he has spare time, he can still play basketball on the side.
