A is for Afghanistan, where Maggie's beloved brother is currently deployed in the military. Maggie doesn't support war by any stretch of the imagination, unlike the rest of her family. But she supports everything her brother does and thinks about him daily.
B is for Burger Junior, Maggie's doberman pinscher. He is a mountain of a dog and extremely affectionate--with Maggie. Much to the chagrin of her roommates, Burger Junior, or Beej for short, is quite aloof toward most people. The identity of Burger Senior is a mystery. "BJ" jokes are not allowed.
C is for coyness. Maggie very often gives the impression of having some secret lingering just at the edge of her words and expressions, and it's no accident. She gets a certain kick out of keeping people guessing.
D is for Dr. Pepper. It is Maggie's one true vice, and other beverages need not apply. She knows soda isn't good for her and doesn't drink too much--but when she does, it's Dr. Pepper.
E is for ecology. Once upon a time, Maggie almost gave up her music dreams to become a park ranger. She even completed a degree program in ecology at the University of Alaska. But she shocked (and disappointed) her family by moving to California almost immediately after graduating.
F is for free-spiritedness. Maggie doesn't fancy herself a hippy by any means. But she has always been much more open-minded and flexible than her family, which has been a point of contention. It was this attitude that got her to California in the first place.
G is for gregariousness. Even if she enjoys more solitary activities in the outdoors, one of the reasons that Maggie could never really be a park ranger was simply that she enjoys the company of others too much. Being alone leaves her too much time to be in her own head, which is not something she enjoys.
H is for haughtiness. Never one for humility, Maggie does have a way of putting herself above others. Sometimes it's innocuous, while occasionally it's very intentional.
I is for ice skating. For about one Winter, Maggie was dead set on becoming a figure skater. The interest didn't last long, but she is still good enough to pull off a few tricks (and skate without falling).
J is for jazz, her favorite genre of music and current source of income. Maggie plays the string base in a three-part jazz ensemble. They have gigs here and there, but their main locale is a local lounge where they play four nights a week.
K is for Kush. Maggie once slept with her RA so that she wouldn't get busted for toking up in the dorms. It didn't hurt that was he was hot to trot and really great in the sack.
L is for lark. Maggie has a colorful tattoo of an lark done in a blocked, geometric style on her right thigh. It's in homage to her Summers spent at Camp Med-O-Lark in Washington, Maine.
M is for Magpie, a name that no one will call Maggie again, given to her by one of two people over whom she has ever cried.
N is for nosiness. For some reason or other, Maggie always seems to have her nose in other peoples' business. She means well, really. All she wants is to help, but she does have a tendency to become overbearing or bossy.
O is for oatmeal. Maggie has had oatmeal for breakfast nearly every day since moving to California--and nothing pre-packaged. She makes it from scratch.
P is for Palmer, Alaska, where Maggie was born and raised. Most people are surprised to learn of her hometown, as well as her interests in things like hunting, fishing, and hiking.
Q is for quadrennial. Maggie was born on February 29th, 1992, meaning her literal birth date only occurs once every four years.
R is for roommates. Maggie is lucky enough to share a two-bedroom apartment with her two bandmates. She's even luckier to have her own bedroom, since the gentlemen were considerate enough to acquiesce to her request for her own bedroom, lest she have to share with a young man.
S is for string bass, her life's work. Maggie began to play the string bass in sixth grade and has been involved in a passionate love affair ever since.
T is for tailoring. Much of Maggie's wardrobe comes from her ability to tailor clothing. Inspired by different fashion bloggers, her favorite thing to do is to turn old, baggy thrift store clothing into cute outfits.
U is for ukulele. Maggie despises the ukulele. She thinks that there is no excuse for anyone outside of native Hawaiians to even touch the thing.
V is for video games. Maggie is a pretty avid gamer, mostly on her computer and Nintendo 3DS. She'd dabble more in console games if she could afford them.
W is for wealth. The Dietz family was extremely affluent for about two years when Maggie was a very young child. Her parents had made some extremely wise investments in years prior, but they spent just about all of their money on a very large and opulent Queen Anne home. Her bedroom was in the tower.
X is for xenagogue, a person who guides strangers. Maggie has publicly pretended to be a tour guide to fool unsuspecting tourists just for fun on two separate occasions.
Y is for youth. Maggie is younger than most of the company with whom she associates, but that's sort of always been the case. It might be that she's always been mature for her age, but it's mostly a coincidence.
Z is for zombies. Even though she has the type of survival skills that would allow her a fighting chance in the event of a zombie apocalypse, Maggie has stated openly that in such an event, she would immediately throw in the towel. Zombies genuinely terrify her.
